Obituary

Josephine L. Shuck, 94 years old of Brownsburg, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home on Jan. 12, 2017. She was born Sept. 24, 1922 to Roy and Ruth Evans of Brazil, Indiana. She grew up with 8 siblings in a family she always said was much like the TV show "The Waltons". She graduated from Brazil High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education at Ball State Teacher's College in 1943. She belonged to three honorary sororities there, Pi Omega Pi, Alpha Phi Gamma, and Kappa Delta Pi. After graduation, she started her 29 year teaching career, teaching high school business and typing classes in LaGrange, Indiana where she met and married Dr. Gilbert R. Shuck, coach and teacher, in 1949. She was preceded in death by him. She also taught at Scircleville High School in Scircleville, Indiana and Clinton Central High School, in Michigantown, Indiana. She earned her Master's degree from DePauw University in 1980. She was the junior high school librarian in Brownsburg for 19 years until she retired in 1985. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and following their activities and enjoyed vacationing with family. She was a member of Connection Point Christian Church in Brownsburg. She was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret Deal and Marybelle Evans; and her brothers Gerald Evans, Nelson Evans, and Roy Jr. Evans. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sister Norma Childress, and brothers Richard Evans and Philip Evans, sisters-in-law Betty Evans and Pat Evans as well as her children, Larry Shuck and his wife Barbara of Brownsburg, Jo Ellen Shepard and her husband Kent of Greeley, Co, and David Shuck and his wife Lorie of Indianapolis; and grandchildren Cameron Shuck and his wife Mandy of Bath, Maine, Kyle Shuck of Brownsburg, Kristi McGrady and her husband Matt of Indianapolis, Ryan Shepard, and Brent Shepard of Greeley, Co; and great-grandchildren Eli Luna of Indianapolis, Eden Shuck and Aria Shuck of Bath, Maine; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families, and friends. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Thurs. Jan. 19 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services at 10am Fri. Jan. 20 at Connection Pointe Christian Church. Burial will be in Summit Lawn Cemetery, Brazil, IN at 1pm Fri.
