Obituary

Judith A. Rettig
83, native of Brownsburg, passed away May 23, 2021. Judy, known as the "monkey lady" was the former owner of the Exotic Animal Kingdom in Indianapolis, a home for abused, unwanted exotic animals as well as retired circus animals. She was known for her amazing cooking. She loved the holidays and gardening with her family. Judy was a beautiful soul who never let anything stop her. She was a firecracker and if you had any problems, she would tell you to pull up your "big girl panties." You never doubted her love for you. We will miss all of her "Judy-isms." She was the rock of our family and will be truly missed by all of us. She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence B. and Doris M. Williams, sister Sandra Williams and brother Steven Williams. Survivors include daughters Belinda Douglass and April Hicks (spouse Andrea Bell), grandchildren Logan Spicer and Lennon Bell-Hicks, her beloved caregivers and close family Debi Swinford and Amber Walters, many nieces and nephews, her cousin and best friend Bonnie Tipton, her "adopted" children Robin Graves and Bryce Marsh and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Phoenix at P.O. Box 88 Shirley, IN 47384. This wonderful nonprofit organization is home to several of Judy's exotic animals. Memorial visitation will be from 10:30am to 12:30pm Saturday June 5 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with memorial services there at 12:30pm
