Karen Elaine Shartzer
72, Brownsburg, passed away on August 23, 2024. She was a past member of Kingsway Christian Church. Karen attended the University of Evansville and was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University and her Master's degrees from Indiana University. Karen taught for the Brownsburg Community School Corporation for 19 years retiring in 1998. She wrote the grant that brought the NASA Challenger Program to Brownsburg Community Schools and was a certified NASA teacher. Karen initiated Brownsburg's first community recycling center in conjunction with Ray's Trash Service. She was preceded in death by her parents Noble and Wanda King. Survivors include her husband Daniel Shartzer; sons Joel Shartzer, Joshua (Cruz Scarlet) Shartzer, Jason (Krishna) Shartzer; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Private services will be held.
