Laura Jane (Hanson) Martin
Laura died on November 14, 2021, surrounded by family.
She was born November 21, 1943 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of the late James and
Winnifred Hanson. A country girl at heart, her first love was horses, and her joy was to be
outside. Laura was a graduate of Valparaiso University who put her career on hold to raise a
family. She taught many years at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Valparaiso where she
retired. An avid reader and people person who loved to travel, above all else, she enjoyed time
with family.
Laura is survived by her husband, John, daughter Dawn Colley, son-in-law Dave Colley,
grandson Owen Colley, and granddaughter Reese Colley, all of Brownsburg, IN, son John of
Chicago, IL, sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Bill Stowers of Goshen, IN, and brother Jim
Hanson of Crown Point, IN. Private services were held. Laura will be laid to rest in Northwest Indiana at a later date.
