Loren E. Smith, age 83, Russellville, died Aug. 2, 2014. Born May 25, 1931 in Fillmore, IN, he was the son of Joseph and Sallie Lewis Smith and grew up on the family farm with his sister Wilma and three brothers Harold, Orval and Dwight. He joined the Marines after high school and was a veteran of the Korean War. He lived and worked in California where he was a carpenter by trade until he retired and moved back to Indiana. He was a Christian and a generous man, sometimes hard headed but not hard hearted. He worked hard but enjoyed life and was loved by many. He is survived by his son Gregory E. Smith, California; his sister Wilma Becker Crosby and husband William, Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion, Elks, Moose and Carpenters Union. Funeral services will be 11:30am Thurs. Aug. 7 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with visitation there from 10am. Burial will be at 1:30pm at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Fillmore, IN.
