Maria Claudia Bratton (Garcia Rueda)
55, of Brownsburg, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, September 19th, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. The Funeral Mass for Claudia will be held at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 9833 E County Road 750 N, Brownsburg, on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10 am. A celebration of Claudia's life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at The Country Club of Indianapolis, 2801 Country Club Road, Indianapolis, IN from 2-5 pm. We hope to see our family and friends at the celebration.
Claudia was born on August 2, 1963 in San Gil, Santander, Colombia, South America, the daughter of Ramón Garcia and Maria Victoria Rueda Villamizar. Claudia graduated from Presentatión High School and Santo Tomás de Aquino University with a degree in Architecture. She miraculously landed in Anderson, Indiana in 1992 to visit friends and swept her future husband, David, off his feet. In November of 1993, they were married in Claudia's hometown of San Gil, Colombia. After living a short time in Anderson, they moved to Michigan and then settled in Brownsburg, Indiana in 1997.
Claudia loved to share her language skills with others. She passed her gift of speaking Spanish on to all three of her children; in fact, Spanish was their first language. She volunteered for many years at St. Malachy School to help with the Spanish programs and to help prepare the students for competitions. She also worked part-time to provide translations between patients and their caregivers.
Claudia enjoyed golfing and was involved with many friends for years in organizing the Golf for the Cure events at The Country Club of Indianapolis. She also loved to make intricate items that she saw on Pinterest; her latest creation was a bird house made from wine corks. She was amazing with details.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 25 years, David Bratton; son, Nicolas; daughters Gabbi and Cristina; her father, Ramón Garcia; her mother, Maria Victoria Rueda Villamizar; brothers Carlos Fernando Garcia and Jorge Enrique Garcia; and a special Maltipoo named Princess. Claudia had many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws who all adored her.
The care and support that Claudia received while facing cancer for the last 7 years was incredible and a true reflection of the love her family and friends, doctors, nurses, and technicians all had for her. Special recognition goes to sisters-in-law Margaret Del Re and Angie Bratton, who both made Claudia's journey so much better.
We ask that in lieu of flowers or other expressions of your love for Claudia and the family, that you donate to St. Malachy Parish School, 7410 N Country Road 1000 E, Brownsburg, IN in Claudia's name. The donations will be used to continue to provide educational and language programs for the school and students she loved so much.
