Marlogene "Jeannie"
Horn
October 3, 1943 – May 12, 2024
Marlogene ('Jeannie') Horn
October 3, 1943 - May 12, 2024
Marlogene ('Jeannie') Horn, 80, died the evening of Sunday, May 12, 2024 at her home in Anderson, Indiana. Jeannie was born October 3, 1943 in Anderson, Indiana, the eldest of five children, to Howard Eugene Friend and Martha Delle (Galbraith) Friend. She attended Daleville High School in Daleville, Indiana. Jeannie married Bruce Ervin Horn on July 1, 1983. Jeannie and Bruce had been married 37-years at the time of his
death on April 13, 2020. She and Bruce were both employed by Anthem Blue-Cross/Blue-Shield in Indianapolis for many years; retiring around 2000.
They resided north of Brownsburg, Indiana, for many years; upon retirement, they purchased farmland located between Pittsboro and Lizton, Indiana in 2003. They built a new home there and a climate-controlled barn then, for nearly 20-years, their land produced beautiful alfalfa hay for livestock, as well as corn and soybeans.
Together, Jeannie and Bruce hosted countless get-togethers in their barn, ranging from Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to birthday parties and graduation celebrations, fun cook-outs and weekly card games with family and friends. They enjoyed long-time friendships made while camping during the summer months at the Old Mill Run Campground near Thorntown, Indiana. They also had fun traveling around the United States in their motorhome and staying in a warm climate each winter; their last together being time spent in Mission, Texas, from which they returned home in March, 2020.
Bruce died unexpectedly on April 13, 2020. Jeannie made the difficult decision to sell their farm in March 2022. She purchased a home in Redbud Estates and relocated to Anderson, Indiana to be nearer her sister and brothers.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Martha Friend; a brother, Donald Friend; her beloved husband, Bruce; her in-laws, Ervin Horn and Nelda F. (Held) Horn; and a brother-in-law, Roger Lee Horn. Her mother-in-law, Nelda, resided with Jeannie and Bruce until her death in 2009. Jeannie is survived by three of her siblings; a sister, Andrea Funk (Mitchell); brothers, Ronnie Friend (Teresa), and John Friend. Additional survivors include her step-son, Andrew E. Horn (Donna); granddaughter, Chelsey Horn (fiancé Daniel Mendsen); grandson, Koby Horn; her brother-in-law, Allan D. Horn (Kathy); a sister-in-law, Lezlie (Meador) Horn, along with an abundance of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, in-laws, step-relatives, extended family members and close friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg, Indiana. Per Jeannie's wishes, there will be no visitations or funeral service; a celebration of life gathering in Jeannie's memory may be held at a later date.
Jeannie was a generous, petite lady with a vivacious personality and wonderful sense of humor; she never met a stranger. She will be forever fondly remembered and sorely missed by everyone who loved her. She and Bruce are together again for eternity.
All of her 80-years of life, Jeannie was deeply passionate about the care and well-being of all animals, especially cats. She dearly loved them and, whenever the opportunity arose, she was never hesitant to take extensive measures to provide food and shelter for animals in need. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Jeannie's name, may submit their donation to The Animal Protection League at 613 Dewey Street, Anderson, IN 46016. Telephone: 765-356-0900
