Obituary

Martie Lee (Schuer) Brown. Kind, beautiful and talented Martie Lee (Schuer) Brown age 50, of Brownsburg, Indiana, died March 13, 2017. With grace and true grit Martie forged a valiant three and a half year battle against ovarian cancer. Marty died peacefully at home surrounded by her husband, family and dear friend Jeanette. Martie Schuer was born on July 30, 1966 in Vallejo, California to Fred and Peggy (Bishop) Schuer. Martie began dancing ballet at age 7 at the Shirley Ray Dance Studio. A highlight of her dance career was a trip to Japan where they experienced beautiful Japanese culture. Martie attended Vintage High School in Napa. She participated in plays like "Guys and Dolls" and senior year she was chosen as a performer in the prestigious "Vocal Music Workshop". Cooking was a specialty and blue ribbons were won by Marty at the Napa Town and Country Fair, with her secret recipes, also known as "Grandma Schuer's chocolate chip cookies and zucchini bread." After high school graduation Martie attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and also obtained her Cosmetology license and worked in San Francisco at 77 Maiden Lane, the hotspot salon of the day. Martie met Phillip Brown of Lennox, Iowa at a Mormon dance. They were married in Napa in a lovely garden wedding in 1991. Marty and Phil moved to Brownsburg Indiana where Phil continued at United Airlines. Martie had a sweet and loving disposition and was a consummate homemaker where she made her home a heaven on earth for her husband and kids, Adam and Lauren. She enjoyed artisan endeavors and could turn rags to riches with her creations. Additionally, she was a certified rifle instructor. Phil slept with one eye open. Later in life, Martie worked in the schools as a Brownsburg "lunch lady", where she made lifelong friends that where a tremendous support to her, especially when she was sick. Central in Martie's life was her beloved Mormon church. She was active in serving others in her ward family. Adam serving a Mormon mission in California and seeing her daughter Lauren marry James Peters last October were Martie's proudest moments. She is survived by her husband Phillip, son Adam, daughter Lauren Brown Peters (James), mother Peggy (Bishop) Schuer Van Valkenburg, her amazing sister Mandy Schuer McAvoy, who is writing this obituary (Hi Martie:). She is also survived by godparents Tommy and Lorraine Woods and her loving in-laws Stan and Jolene Brown. She is preceded in death by her father Fred Schuer and paternal grandparents Charles and Valborg Schuer, maternal grandfather Hal Bishop and Martie's cherished grandma Thelma Bishop, who was first to welcome Martie Lee to heaven with a big hug. Donations in Martie's honor can be made to The American Cancer Society. Services will be Sat. March 18 with viewing at 10am and funeral service at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (The Mormon Church), 10518 East County Road 600 North, Indianapolis, IN 46112.
