Mcveigh "John"
Griffin
May 13, 1950 – October 11, 2025
McVeigh "John" Griffin
75, Avon, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 11, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital.
John was born on May 13, 1950 in Norwalk, Connecticut. He spent 42 years as an adoring and devoted companion to his wife Dawn, and was a loving father to his children, Neil, Benjamin, and Nicholas.
After a long career as a Professor of Aviation Maintenance at Vincennes University, John (with Dawn) owned and operated Pro-Kote Indy, an Indianapolis powder coating company until retirement in 2024.
A true renaissance man in many ways, John was a talented musician who played in bands during his early life and was a creative chef who (with sous chef Dennis Callender) produced recipes and comfort food for charities, family and friends. He was also a skilled mechanic and craftsman, a curious reader, and a seasoned traveler. He was fascinated with and tinkered with anything that had an engine. As a member of the National T-Bucket Alliance, he often cruised to club events in his 1927 T Roadster. John's vast abilities are highlighted in their home and farmstead, the "Purple Goat", in which John designed and did much of the specialized work.
John's most important legacy was his family, whom he left his countless life lessons, skills and love.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Dawn (Callender) Griffin; sons, Neil Griffin, Benjamin Griffin, Nicholas Griffin; sister Gail Griffin; brother Jonathan Griffin; brother-in-law, Dennis Callender; brother-in-law, Doug Callender; and grandchildren Sean, Daniel, and Grace. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Gloria Griffin; brother Christopher Griffin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
