Obituary

Melanie Hoffman, whose love for life and learning touched all who knew her, passed away suddenly at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on August 18, 2026. Born on November 5, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Melanie was the beloved daughter of the late Raymond and Rachelle (Wright) Hoffman.

She attended IUPUI, Melanie's career was rooted in her passion for the written word, beginning as a proofreader for Wiley Publishing, Inc., and culminating in her role as a librarian with the Indianapolis Public Library. Her colleagues and patrons alike admired her for her dedication and the vast knowledge she eagerly shared.

Melanie was an active member of The Illustrious Clients of Indianapolis, where her insightful contributions and lively debates made her a treasured participant. Her quick wit and encyclopedic mind also made her an unbeatable teammate in Trivial Pursuit, a game where her skills truly shone.

Life enriched Melanie with many passions. She was an avid reader and a dedicated crafter, often found with knitting needles or cross-stitch in hand. Her love for Indy Car Racing and PBS radio added vibrancy to her days, and her lunches with friends were filled with laughter and joy. Melanie had a special bond with her cat Max, who now feels her absence profoundly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Allan and sister-in-law Marie Hoffman, Melanie's spirit lives on through her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted nephew Steve Hoffman and his wife Liz, along with their children Van, Charlie, and Frankie. Her cousins, Jeni Thien, Julie Hoffmann and Jane Hoffmann hold her memory close, as do her dear friends Sally and Terry Bonneau and Joyce Elsbury .

A service to honor Melanie's life will be held on Thursday September 3rd, 2026, from 10 am to 12 noon at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg, Indiana. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to celebrate her life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Melanie's memory may be made to the Scratching Post, a cause close to her heart, located at 6948 Plainfield Road, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Melanie Hoffman's life was a testament to the joy of learning and the warmth of friendship. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
