Melford (Mel) O. Bartz, 91, Brownsburg, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 7th. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Mary E. Bartz. Mel was a veteran of WWII and served the Navy in the Pacific from June 1943 through April 1946. Mel and Mary were married in August of 1949. After the war he graduated as an Electrical Engineer from Kansas University in 1950. He was known to family as "Toppy" since as a child his hair was almost white and curly. He and Mary could always be found at swimming meets, dance recitals, soccer games and anywhere else their children or grandchildren were involved. He will be missed, loved and remembered by all that knew him. Mel is survived by his 2 children: Cheryl (Jack) Kennard of Brownsburg, IN and Bob (Elaine) Bartz of Hanover Park, IL. Grandchildren: Jason (Katie) Kennard, Jared (Lori) Kennard, Joshua Bartz, Ben Bartz and Lindsey Bartz. Great grandchildren: Avery, Colin and Quinn Kennard and Ema Bartz. The family has decided not to have a formal service, so no flowers. Please just take a minute or two and remember Mel/Toppy in your own way.
