Obituary

Melvin J. Hobson,70, Brownsburg, passed away January 23, 2017. Born April 29, 1946, he was the second son of Joe and Elizabeth Hobson of Rockville. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1964, received his Bachelor's Degree in elementary education from Indiana State in 1968 and Master's Degree from Indiana University in 1972. He completed his certification in severe disabilities in 1994 from Indiana University. He taught fifth grade in Brownsburg schools for six years and was self-employed until 1994 when he began teaching in the Severe Disabilities Community Based Program at Indianapolis Public Schools, retiring in 2012 from Howe High School. He is survived by his children Melissa (Ron) Shoemaker of Brownsburg; Michael Joe (Abby) Hobson of Carmel; Matthew Hobson of Brownsburg; Katy (Zec) Geisleman of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren. Additional survivors include three brothers and a sister: Milton (Franci) Hobson, David (Mary Lou) Hobson, Susan (Gary) Smith, all of Rockville and Daryl (Mary) Hobson of Lafayette. Visitation will be held at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg on Friday, January 27 from 3-6 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 12 noon at Coloma Friends Church with services to immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. William T. Flanigan officiating. Burial will follow at Coloma Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Autism Speaks or Coloma Friends Church.
