Michael J. Fay
Born on August 28, 1953 in Indianapolis, IN to Charles and Norma (Hood) Fay, passed away in the early morning hours of April 22, 2022 at his home. Mike and Susan (Helmer) Fay had a wonderful time celebrating their 43 rd wedding anniversary the last day of his life here on this earth. He was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and was always happiest when spending time with his family. He was a 1971 graduate of Cardinal Ritter high school and began a career with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in 1979. He was on the police department for 31 years, mostly as a nightshift patrolman in the Southeast district. At work, he was lovingly called "Father Mike" as he was always willing to lend his ear and offer sage advice to those in need. At home, he was always there to provide a voice of reason, an engaging story and an example of what it meant to be and honorable man. He was the 3 rd of 10 kids and lived on the West side of Indianapolis his entire life. After retiring in 2010, he spent his time refinishing antiques and furniture for family and friends. Survivors include his wife Susan (Helmer) Fay, sons Kevin (Daphne) Fay and Andrew (Emily) Fay, siblings Tom Fay, Beth (Steve) Beck, Ann Marie (Dan) Ransdell, Jimmy Fay, Patty Brown, Cathy (John) Hagan, Suzy (Tom) Maled, Peggy (Brian) Semich and Tony (Mike) Fay, in-laws Vince (Marlene) Helmer, Joanne Koss, Bob (Ann) Helmer, Tom Helmer, Jim (Lisa) Helmer and Ed Hougendobler, grandsons Hayden, Ian and Connor Fay, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Norma Fay, sisters-in-law Christine Helmer, Mary Pat Hougendobler and Cheryl Helmer, brother-in-law and best friend Danny Koss, niece Emily Bruner as well as many aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Christopher Church building fund. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Wednesday April 27 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. Funeral Mass will be at 11am Thursday at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 W. 16 th St., Indianapolis, IN 46224, with visitation from 10am. Burial will follow in the Brownsburg Cemetery.
