Michael Leonard
Tracy
January 25, 1942 – March 16, 2025
Michael L. Tracy Mike "Bumpy" Tracy, 83, was born in Indianapolis on January 25, 1942, where he grew up as a young boy with the care and support of his many westside Tracy family members. He attended both Washington High School and Ben Davis High School, completing his education in 1960. Michael married Sandra Lavonne Bowman on July 3, 1959. As a young father, Mike volunteered as a coach for little league football games and as a parent sponsor with YMCA Indian Guides. Later, Mike and Sandy moved their young family to Brownsburg in 1973, where they lived for nearly 50 years, were avid Bulldog supporters, and took pride in their family's many contributions to the Brownsburg community. With work as a tool-and-die maker, Mike was employed by several firms in Indianapolis, including General Motors at the Allison's plant in Speedway. Additionally, he and Sandy owned and operated the Draught Board Tavern in Lebanon for many years.
Mike's interests were broad and active. His passion was golf, remaining on the greens whenever weather permitted well into his later years. Mike was a member with several bowling leagues as well. An avid sports fan, Mike followed all of the Indianapolis sports teams, but of greater interest to him was attending the athletic events where his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren excelled. Mike was also a self-taught carpenter and craftsman who was proud of many projects from his talents, including the design and build of renovations at his children's homes. Also, Mike loved any game involving a deck of 52 cards, and was known on occasion to make a wager on the outcomes.
Mike relocated to Avon, Indiana in 2020, where he lived until 2024. After some health issues arose in 2023 and 2024, Mike relocated to Marshall, Michigan to be near "his boys" as he called Bradley and TJ. Settling into his new home, he became active with the local senior citizens center and joined the nightly euchre card games there. At times, he also found his way to the casino just six miles west of his front door. After exactly four months of living in his new place, Mike Tracy passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on March 16, 2025.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandra in 2022 and his beloved mother, Kathryn Leonard in 2006. Michael's father Herman Tracy passed in 1952. Mike is survived by his three children: Kimberly Armstrong (husband Ed), Kelli Waggoner (husband Jeff), and Bradley Tracy (husband Timothy Donahue). Mike deeply loved his six grandchildren: Justin Armstrong, Tracy Schenkel (husband Nathan), Adam Armstrong, Aaron Armstrong (wife Kristen), Kyle Waggoner (wife Bailey), and Grant Waggoner (wife Abby). Their 15 children fondly remember their great-grandfather by his nickname known to all: Bumpy. Mike was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jim and Karen Gerovac, and is fondly remembered by their three sons Gregory, Nicholas (wife Jill), and Michael Gerovac.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm on Monday March 24th at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. A Memorial Service and Eulogy will take place at 10am on Tuesday, March 25th at Matthews Mortuary. A mass at St. Malachy Catholic Church follows the events at Matthews Mortuary, ending with a Committal prayer at 1pm in the chapel at Floral Park Cemetery, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike's honor to Hendricks Humane Society: 3033 E. Main Street, Danville, IN 46122 at www.hendrickshumane.org are welcomed and appreciated.
