Morris Oakley Woods
Morris, 89, Brownsburg, passed away July 17, 2013 due to spinal problems and cancer. He was born August 5, 1923 to Thomas Oakley and Mary Ellen Collyer Woods in Warren County, Indiana. Morris was married for thirty-two years to Marilyn H. Hardwick Woods, who survives, and he was previously married to Wilma Blaydes Woods, who passed away in 1980. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1941. His life story is listed as follows: June 1941-October 1945, US Navy at Pearl Harbor; June 1949 B.S., Purdue University; M.S., Butler University, 1963; and teacher- administrator Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, 1949-1985. Morris is survived by Marilyn H. Woods, wife, two sisters and one brother, Rosemary Hooker (Robert), Josephine Granlund (James), William Woods (Doris), and many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by two sisters and their husbands, Marjorie Jacobs (Raymond) and Wilma Peercy (Eugene). Special interests included building new homes, woodworking (grandfather clock, end tables, and dulcimer), woodcarving (angels, canes and water fowl) in his favorite walnut wood. Fishing in Canada and traveling, mainly by Airstream, in the United States and other countries were enjoyable. Detailed discussions with family and friends to whom he was completely loyal were his priorities. The visitation will be Monday, July 22, from 3:30pm until 7:00pm at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral service there Tuesday July 23 at 10:00am. The graveside service ceremony will be held at Moscow Cemetery at 12:30pm. Memorial gifts may be considered for the American Cancer Society or the Connection Pointe Christian Church of Brownsburg.
