Obituary

Nancy Sharon Bonewits Ray Rarey, 85 of Brownsburg, Indiana passed away peacefully on May 30, 2022.

Nancy was born on August 25, 1936, to Austin E. Bonewits and Reba M. Hutcheson Bonewits in Washington (Davis County) Indiana. In 1939 the family moved to the Fountain Square area of Indianapolis.

Nancy attended Indianapolis Public School #13, #8 and Manuel High School graduating with the Class of 1954. She participated in the Senior Girls Honor Society, Senior Choir, Ensemble, Mask Wig Drama Club and Red Cross Club. She was a top 10 Junior making the Honor Roll Junior and Senior years and awarded a Scholarship to Butler University.

Nancy began her professional career as an Administrative/Customer Service Rep with Commercial Motor Freight, Indianapolis, IN., King School Equipment Company, Danville, IN, Smith Systems, New Brighton, MN and Peafield Products, Plainfield, IN before retiring in 2000.

Nancy attended St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, Downers Grove, IL and the United Presbyterian Church, Danville, IN. Nancy loved to read. She always said her favorite book was the Dictionary. She also enjoyed playing piano and singing barbershop harmony with the Sweet Adeline's chorus group and spending time with family and friends.

Nancy was married to her wonderful husband of 50 years, Robert Emmet Rarey, who passed away in 2013. She is survived by her loving family; children, Joseph A. Ray (Julie), Daniel M. Ray, Kristine E. Ray Mason (Rick), N. Robin Rarey Ryan (Craig McFarland), Stepchildren Daniel R. Rarey, John D. Rarey (Darlene), Susan J. Rarey, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, sister Judith L. Archer Hendrickson (Tom), and brother Robert A. Bonewits (Jane).

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, sister Linda S. Bonewits Toney and her husband Marc, daughter-in-law Sharon K. Ray, and grandchildren Allison S. Mason and Jonathan R. Ray.

Services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 801 South Green Street, Brownsburg, Indiana on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Visitation will be from 9-11:00 am, with a Service immediately following.  Burial will take place at 2:30 pm the same day at the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery, Reelsville, IN.
