Obituary

Nolan Joseph Miller of Indianapolis entered the stage of life on December 13, 1993, and concluded his last act on April 7, 2022, at Community North ER with his family by his side, passing away at the untimely age of 28 from an acute hyperglycemic episode. Nolan was an entertainer from a very early age and his life was one of courage, generosity and love. While he exits the stage too soon, his family and friends are struck by his undeniable ability to bring laughter, joy and intellect to every scene he entered.

Nolan had a knack for both clever wit and sincere compassion, which made him the first person to whom his family would have turned to improve sad affairs such as writing obituaries. It was also the reason he had such strong friendships of all ages both near and far. He was an intellectual with a curiosity for the unknown and a challenger to the already accepted. He studied philosophy, religion, psychology and world affairs. He loved theater, reading, playing video games and sharing brunch with friends, cuddling with his puppies and family holidays and game nights. He was a writer, a creative, a comic and a podcast producer. He deeply loved his family and connecting with seniors but most recently he loved his newfound responsibilities of being an uncle.

Graduating from Brownsburg High School in 2013, Nolan loved participating in theater, The Blend (jazz vocal group), and starred in musical and theater productions including Hello Dolly and 12 Angry Men. Even though his last year to play basketball was eighth grade, he loved the sport and participated on the winning 2008 IHSAA State Basketball Championship team alongside future NBA superstars as the team ball boy.

Nolan attended Cincinnati Christian University first to pursue ministry but switched and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and many lifelong friends.

He moved to Indianapolis alongside his immediate family and furthered his pursuit of standup comedy, a new hobby that turned into a passion, allowing him to express himself and bring joy to others. Nolan loved the Indianapolis comedy community and their friendship most of all.

His natural appreciation for his elders led him to work with seniors first as a barista at Woodland Terrace of Carmel and then promoted to Marketing Director at Crestwood Village North. It was natural for him because he had regularly visited his 100+ year old Great Grandma Pauline Hanke at a Crestwood Community and witnessed how she thrived. He loved learning seniors' stories.

He will be remembered for his compassion for all people, radiating love, openly processing life, crushing a comedy set and being a beloved son, brother and friend. Join us in a standing ovation after Nolan's final curtain call.

He is survived by his mother and father, David and Angela Miller, brothers Justin, Benjamin (Maggie), niece Quinn, grandmother Marjorie Miller, uncle Rick (Jan) Marshall, aunt Dot (Jim) Ward and many extended family members and friends and was proceeded in death by his grandparents Bob and Starley Marshall and Rev. Robert H. Miller.  Visitation will be held at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, Monday April 11 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and Visitation one hour prior (10:00 AM) to a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday April 12th at Connection Pointe Christian Church.

The family wishes to thank the Community North ER team for their compassion and tireless effort to try to revive Nolan.
