Phyllis E.
Junger
November 9, 1951 – September 8, 2025
Phyllis (Bloss) Junger, 73, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, September 8, 2025, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on November 9, 1951, in Logansport, Indiana, to Byron and Ruth (Carey) Bloss.
Phyllis was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and went on to earn a business degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She had a long career spanning more than 43 years with Indiana Bell, SBC, Ameritech, and AT&T. After retirement, she enjoyed beach vacations to Naples and visiting Arizona in the winter. She loved reading the newspaper and working crossword and sudoku puzzles every day.
Known to be a fierce competitor, Phyllis lived for a good game of Scrabble with her family. She loved watching sports, especially Purdue football and basketball games. Be careful if you sat next to her during those games - she was known to smack the couch, or whoever was closest, in her excitement. She also loved spending time with friends, going out to lunch, shopping, and attending outdoor concerts. Above all, nothing was more precious to Phyllis than raising her four children and watching them grow into wonderful adults (her words).
Phyllis and her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Life's Journey Hospice. Special thanks to her nurses, Tammy and Karen, whose kindness and dedication brought comfort to both Phyllis and her family.
She is survived by her four children, Shannon (Marc) Richardson, Dawn (Scott) Grubbs, Brian (Stacey) Junger, and Jon (Emily) Junger; eight grandchildren, Hunter, Violet, Ruby, Ivy, Baylee, Natalee, Leo, and Evan; her brother, Bruce (Linda) Bloss; her sister, Julia Shafer; her aunt, Babe Carey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her uncle, Joe Carey.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg, with funeral services immediately following at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) at http://support.pancan.org/goto/PhyllisJunger
