Obituary

Richard W. Catlin, 79, Brownsburg, Indiana, formerly of Tonawanda, NY passed away on Wednesday December 28, 2016. He had been an educator in the City of Tonawanda School System since the early 1960's, retiring as the Junior High School principal, then was elected to the Tonawanda School Board. While working in Tonawanda, Mr. Catlin served on the Starpoint Central School Board for many years and even served as School Board president. Mr. Catlin received many awards during his 43 years as an educator including the Tonawanda Education Association Distinguished Service Award, John F. Kopczynski Award. In its 16th year the "NY Power Authority Arts/Science/Technology Fair" was renamed the "Richard W. Catlin AST Fair" in honor of its creator. Richard was an active member of the St. Bartholomew Anglican Church in Tonawanda and sang in the choir until he moved to Indiana 5 years ago. While in Indiana he attended Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church of Avon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan (Kriedemann) Catlin and his parents Robert & Gertrude (Brown) Catlin of Waverly, NY. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, educator and friend to all, he is survived by his daughters Jennifer (David) Dressler, Sarah (Peter) Bowman, grandchildren Caitlin Dressler, Corinne Dressler & Michael Bowman, brother Raymond (Vivienne) Catlin of Longmeadow, MA, sister Dorothy (late Richard) Stapley of Geneseo, NY, and dearest lifelong friends Rev. Richard & Barbara Molison. Richard is also survived by his niece Kristin (Chris) Laure, and nephews Keith (Judy) Stapley, Brian (Amber) Stapley, Alex (Nicole) Catlin. A special Thank You to the ASC - Brownsburg Meadows staff, especially Jennifer, Sarah and Shannon, for their loving care and support. Memorial visitation will be from 3-6:30pm Wednesday, January 4, 2017 with prayer service at 6:30pm at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg.

Memorial visitation will be from 4-7pm Friday, January 6, 2017 at Hamp Funeral Home, 37 Adam Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150. A memorial service will be 11am Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 2368 Eggert Road, Tonawanda, NY 14150, with visitation from 9:30-10:30am. A private interment at Elm Lawn Cemetery will follow the service. If preferred, donations may be sent to St. Bartholomew Anglican Church for their choir program.
