Richard "Dick"
Edward Sanford
June 25, 1941 – August 27, 2023
Richard (Dick) Edward Sanford, 82 of Brownsburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 27th surrounded by his loving family. Dick was a beloved husband of his wife, Ruby, and his two daughters and sons in-law, Lori Kay (Jim) and Shannon Marie (Rick); a very loved grandfather and great grandfather to Michael, Grace & Parker and Ashley, Braden, Rylie & Ella Rose; adored brother by his sister Carolyn (Ronnie). He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Sanford, mother, Alberta Kay Isler and sister Toni (Bill).
Dick was born on June 25th, 1941 in Jeffersonville, Indiana and later moved to Indianapolis where he met the love of his life, Ruby Goodin. As 18 year old teenagers, they married on October 30th, 1959. Dick worked at Anderson Motor Trucking Co. for many years as Director of Vehicle Maintenance as well as advisor for vehicle maintenance for the State of Connecticut. He retired at the age of 62 to predominantly support them through his hobby of Lionel Trains.
The best day of Dick's life was when he came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in March of 1970. They attended New Life Baptist Church in Brooklyn, where they lived until the Lord led them to live in Brownsburg and be a part of a church plant in Clermont, Indiana, called Charity Baptist Church where he and his wife served faithfully. Dick & Ruby have served their Lord faithfully at Bethesda Baptist Church, College Park Church and now Faith Baptist of Avon. Dick loved Jesus and told others how to know his Savior through their Christian train literature and conversations with others.
This man was not just a husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, and brother - he was a friend, teacher, role model, provider and man of God. He will be missed greatly. Thankfully this isn't the end (THANK YOU JESUS!) and we will see him in Heaven!
Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm Thursday August 31 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services at 12pm. Burial will follow in Sparks Cemetery.
