Richard A.
Lewallen
Jul 13, 1955 — Nov 3, 2026
Brownsburg
Richard A. “Rick” Lewallen, 71, of Brownsburg, Indiana, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2026.
Rick was born on July 13, 1955, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to Raymond Eugene and Ula Francis Lewallen. He graduated from Greencastle High School with academic honors. In 1978, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute (GMI), now Kettering University. During college, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He enjoyed an accomplished 46-year career at General Motors/Allison Transmission, retiring in 2019 as Manager of Military Transmission Engineering. He was also honored as a Noble Patron of Armor by the U.S. Cavalry and Armor Association.
Rick and Joyce married in 1978 and spent the next 48 years building a life together and raising their two sons. Rick took great pride in his family and in providing for those he loved.
With an engineer’s mind and gifted hands, there was little Rick couldn’t build, repair, or figure out. He generously shared his talents with family, friends, and the community, serving on AJAA’s board and taking pride in maintaining athletic fields for local children and families to enjoy.
Hunting was Rick’s lifelong passion. He also enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson with his wife, and following Indiana sports. In the latter half of his life, he became an avid runner and was dedicated to regular exercise.
Beyond his many talents and accomplishments, Rick will be remembered most for his love and dedication to his family. He was someone you could always count on, whether you needed something fixed, a helping hand, or simply someone in your corner. His generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Joanne Cloncs, Joyce Hudelson, and his twin sister, Victoria Payne; his brothers-in-law, James Cloncs and Earl Hudelson; and his nephew, Jeff Cloncs.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons Richard (Stephanie) and Brian (Jayme); grandchildren Addison and Brooks; brothers-in-law Dennis Payne and James Giannini; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
His family will celebrate his life privately.
