Richard A.
Perry
July 1, 1971 – August 17, 2025
Richard "Rich" Allen Perry
Richard Allen Perry, beloved husband, father, family man, and resident of Brownsburg, Indiana, died unexpectedly on August 17, 2025, at the age of 54. Rich was preceded in death by his father, Dale Perry. Survivors include his wife, Laura (Emmert) Perry; his daughters, Elaina and Gwendolyn; his mother, Peggy; his sisters, Rhonda Perry and Rebecca McClure-Hooper (Kevin); beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, as well as many brothers & sisters in Christ, and friends who he called family.
Rich was born in Martinsville, Indiana, on July 1, 1971, to Dale and Peggy. He graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1989 and from Ball State University in 1995 with a bachelor's degree. On February 13, 1999, Rich married Laura, the love of his life. They had two children, Elaina (22) and Gwendolyn (18).
After college, Rich worked for ABG Ag Services as a graphic designer. He later worked for Golden Rule Insurance as a broker services representative. Since 2003, he has worked for Balkamp Inc., which eventually became Genuine Parts Company (NAPA) where he worked in various departments, including Marketing Services Group, Pricing and Purchasing, and finally Supply Chain, where he worked as an analyst.
Growing up, the youngest of three siblings, Rich was the largest at birth, loudest as a child, and liveliest as a teenager. From an early age, he enjoyed storytelling with his G.I. Joe and Star Wars action figures and playing board games with his sisters, unless he was losing, in which case the games were over. According to them, he enjoyed special privileges being a boy-child, and they grew up being known as Richard and the Girls. Rich could always be found drawing, reading comic books or watching cartoons. When he got older, Rich was an avid Dungeons and Dragons player with his friends. He wrestled in high school and nurtured a lifelong passion for art and drawing, and for expressing himself creatively.
As an adult, he used his artistic skills on special projects for friends and family. He enjoyed playing games of all kinds, especially strategy-based games, including one that he created with friends at work during their lunch hours called Herolio. He relished story writing and creating intricate role-playing game adventures. Rich enjoyed attending theater shows and loved couples dancing and line dancing. He also loved hiking; the more rugged the trail, the better.
Rich was not afraid of hard work. He was a fixer and a problem solver. When something needed to be done, he figured it out. He always put others first. He made time for people who needed him, even when he didn't have the time to give. He was a humble man and never expected thanks or recognition.
Rich could often be found volunteering at church. He took on various roles when help was needed. He became a member of the church's cleaning crew and eventually stepped into the role of organizer. He led the audio and visual ministry, but he would tell you that providing working sound and video on Sunday was a team effort. Over the years, he taught in many children's ministries where his playful side and creativity shone.
He was a very engaged father and uncle who didn't shy away from pretend-play in tea parties, dress-up, or playground parkour. He took his girls on many trips to the Indy Zoo, the Children's Museum, and Turkey Run State Park. As they grew, he did his very best to attend every performance and game, and if he thought he could help, offered his time and talents to work behind the scenes in a supporting role. He loved and took care of his wife's father and aunt, Mike and Maribelle, in their disabilities as if they were his very own as well.
Rich was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and mentor to many, and most importantly, a follower of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved learning about the Word of God and sharing it with others. He led several Bible studies, guiding earnest seekers, and was passionate about sharing and defending the Gospel with anyone.
Rich's wife was the most important person in his world. He and Laura were truly one and devoted to each other and the Lord. He loved his children fiercely and showed them how to be self-sufficient, love Jesus, and serve others in everything they do. Rich will be deeply and painfully missed until we all are reunited with him again someday. Until then, his legacy lives on through his wife, kids, and the many lives he has touched in the name of Jesus.
