Richard D. Runyon
86, of Brownsburg, passed away peacefully on Feburary 1st, 2026. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a heavy equipment operator from 1957 to 1960. After his military service, Richard worked through his younger years at Downy Construction. Thanks to this position, he was introduced to the love of his life, Judy. Richard held many professional titles throughout his life-he worked diligently as a security guard at Allison Transmission, owned Runyon Electric and Runyon Garage Doors in Brownsburg for many years, as well as served on the Brownsburg Police Reserve and Fire Department. Richard was also President of the Brownsburg Town Board for 4 years. He retired from his positon as maintenance supervisor at Target, but continued to be active in his community through the Knights of Columbus and his attendance of St. Malachy Catholic Church. Richard's life was led by his desire to serve others.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Helen Runyon; sons Thomas Dale Runyon and Terry Dwayne Runyon; and 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife Judy Runyon; children Timothy Dean (Allison) Runyon and Tracy Dion (Kimberly) Runyon; daughter-in-law Mindi Runyon; brother Leo Runyon; cherished grandchildren Trent (Julie) Wolfe, Ashley (Bradley) Cohen, Michael (Emily) Runyon, Kathryn Runyon, Haley Runyon, Dylan Runyon, Grace Burgess, Kaila (Bryan) Chastain, Braeton (Avery) Runyon, Bret (Logan) Runyon; great-grandchildren Corbin Wolfe, Morgan Wolfe, Hannah Cohen, Barrett Runyon, Beckham Runyon, and Wrenley Chastain.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 11 am on Friday, February 6th at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. A funeral mass will follow at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Brownsburg at 11:30 am. Richard will then be laid to rest in Brownsburg Cemetery.
