Richard J. "Dick" Stuffle, age 77, of Pittsboro, IN passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 at IU West Avon after a brief illness. Dick was born September 10, 1940 in Daviess County, IN to Clarence R. and M. Lucine Stuffle.
He graduated from Odon High School, Indiana Central, and Indiana University where he earned BS, MS, and EDS degrees in Education. He began his education career as a teacher of mathematics at Edgewood High School and Owen Valley Schools; served as High School Principal of Monrovia, Tri West, and North Miami Schools, and Superintendent of Southwest Parke County Schools. After retiring from the State of Indiana, he taught for several years in the North Carolina Public Schools. He cleverly captured the best of academics, behavior, and was greatly respected by his students.
Survivors include his wife, Janet (Nowling) Stuffle of Pittsboro; Daughters Hope (Steve) Fry of Phoenix, AZ and Holly (Jayson) McCammack of Warsaw, IN; grandchildren, Hayley and Jack Fry, and Duncan and Conner McCammack; and his sister, Brenda Richards of Bloomington, IN. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bob Richards. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg, IN. A Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to support scholarships for graduates of North Daviess High School.
