Robert G. “Butch/Bob” Carter Jr.
85, of Brownsburg, passed away on June 23rd, 2026. Robert was born in Indianapolis to his parents Robert Sr. and Mary Evelyn (Leimgruber) Carter on April 22nd, 1941. Shortly after, he and his family relocated to Terre Haute. Robert went on to graduate from Cathedral High School before proudly serving in the Army National Guard. During his professional career, he worked as an engineer with AT&T for over 30 years.
Robert and his family were longtime, dedicated members of St. Malachy Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Brownsburg American Legion as well as the Cataract Yacht Club. Above anything else, he loved to spend his free time with family, close friends, and fishing on the water.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Robert Sr. and Mary Evelyn; daughter Courtney Chavis; sister Genevieve “Jeb” Short. He is survived by his beloved wife Marlene (Levy) Carter; children Butch (Cari Rogers-Carter) Carter, Jeff Carter, Amy (Eric) Essley, Eric (Juanita) Carter, Laura (Brian) Crum, Heather (Ron) Taylor; sisters Mary Evelyn “Mike” (Bob) Sitzman and Nancy (Bill) Glawatz; brother Joe (Judy) Carter; 14 cherished grandchildren: Autumn, Devon, Tayler, Lauryn, Brandy, Isabelle, Max, Josh, Delaney, Rylan, Aiden, Fin, Josie, and Alysse; and 6 great-grandchildren: Emerson, Ansley, Nora, Nora, Milo, and Owen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2nd from 10 am to 12 noon at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. A funeral mass will follow on the same day at 12:30 pm at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 9833 E County Rd 750 N, Brownsburg, IN 46112. Robert will then be laid to rest in St. Malachy Cemetery West.
