Robert Hughie
Mizell
November 8, 1944 – August 12, 2025
Robert Hughie Mizell, age 80, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at his home in Pittsboro, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glasgow, Kentucky, Hughie was the son of the late Joseph Crittington Mizell and Rebecca Louise Mizell. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a man deeply committed to his faith and community. Hughie always valued his relationship with God. He served faithfully as both a deacon and an elder in the church and was a long-time member of both the Jamestown and Brownsburg churches of Christ. A well-known figure in the Brownsburg community, Hughie was the proud owner and operator of Mizell's Barbershop and Styling, which he opened in 1967. For over 50 years, he welcomed generations of families into his chair. Countless community members received their very first haircut from Hughie — a rite of passage that became a cherished memory for many. The shop remains open today and is now lovingly run by his daughter, Amy. In addition to his service through the church, Hughie was a founding member of the Brownsburg Kiwanis Club, reflecting his lifelong commitment to community involvement and service. Hughie is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Denver "Dennie" Sue Mizell; son Eric (Sarah) Mizell of Brownsburg; daughter Amy (Nick) Worley of Brownsburg; grandchildren Corri (Aric) Russell, Abbey (Alex) Mizell, Maggie (Trent) Whittington, Allessandra (Cody) Kuehne, Jesse (Mikayla) Mizell, and Antonio (Taylor) Worley; eight great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and brother Joseph E. Mizell. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert H. Mizell Jr.; sister, Carolyn Perry; and his parents, Joseph C. Mizell and Rebecca L. Mizell. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm Mon. Aug.18 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 10 am on Tues. Aug. 19. Hughie will be laid to rest at Brownsburg Cemetery, next to his beloved son.
