Robert Wilmington "Coop" Cooper
88, of Brownsburg, Indiana died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Prestwick Manor in Avon, Indiana following a brief illness. Robert is survived by a daughter Ruth, a niece Mary Cooper, stepchildren Debbie Flanagan, Robert Reeder and Brenda Reeder, Grandchildren Brendon, Ian, Chris, Michael Flanagan, Jeff Reeder and Andrea Lake. Robert also is survived by three great-grandchildren. Robert is preceded in death by his wife Elaine (Borden) Cooper and his second wife Dolores (Lindholm) Reeder Cooper, his parents Homer O. Cooper and Ruth House Cooper, his brother John Cooper and his twin James House Cooper. Robert was born and raised in Vincennes Indiana. He joined the Navy at age 18 and very proudly served his country in the Pacific theater. He was a quartermaster and served on the Gold Star AG 12 which honorably earned two battle stars during his tour. He then signed on to serve during the Korean Conflict. Robert was always willing and eager to share his war stories about his Navy days. He proudly went to work for Montgomery Wards after his service to his country. His career took him to Terre Haute, Indiana, Wilmington, North Carolina and San Diego, California. During his retirement he returned to Indiana. When his health allowed it he spent his winters in the south on the Gulf of Mexico, he truly loved the time he spent down there. He loved to play golf and he had a hole-in-one that he was so proud to have achieved at a now extinct golf course in Brownsburg Indiana. Robert had a great sense of humor which was enjoyed by many and will be sadly missed. A private memorial service was held. Donations in his honor can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
