Obituary

Russell M. Deckard, 76, Indianapolis, born October 9, 1947 in Lynwood, California to Delbert & Joan went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 12, 2024 surrounded by his "circle of love" (aka his family).

He graduated from Northwest High School in 1965 and drafted into the United States Army in 1967.  He was a Sergeant and served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969 receiving a Bronze Star award as well as two Purple Hearts.

Throughout his life he was very involved with his family and community.  He was a member of Chapel Rock Christian Church, Brownsburg School Board, American Legion, Shriners, IBEW, Sertoma, and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Amvets.

He worked for the IBEW and Alison Transmission before starting his own Construction Company.  He also had his realtor's license.  He then went on to work for several commercial builders before working for the Brownsburg School Corporation building and remodeling several schools.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Karen; children, Matthew (Lisa) Deckard, Jeannie (Larry) Deckard-Jinkins, daughter-in-law Margaret Deckard; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Jacquelyn Buckrop.  Preceding him in death were his parents and son Steven R. Deckard.

Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm Thursday January 18 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services following there at 1pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 98, 5420 W. 34th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46224.
