Ruth E.
Griggs
September 18, 1930 – August 16, 2025
Ruth Ellen Hardy Griggs
94, of Brownsburg passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Brownsburg Meadows. She was born on September 18, 1930, in Bloomington, Indiana, to parents Dale Hardy and Vada (Back) Hardy. Ruth was a graduate of Bloomington High School. She married William "Bill" Griggs on October 21, 1950. They were married 59 years until Bill passed away on December 1st, 2009.
Ruth was tirelessly dedicated to her family and was an exceptional role model that many looked to, for comfort, guidance, and inspiration. Her nurturing, compassionate nature was one of the many reasons she was loved by nearly everyone she encountered throughout her life. Ruth was a pillar of strength that her loved ones could lean on when in need of support. That unwavering strength was deeply rooted in her faith in Christ.
Ruth enjoyed listening to music, especially gospel hymns, which she frequently sang along to, walks with Bill, desserts, playing with her grandchildren, and talking with friends and family. In her later years, she would insist that visitors wake her during a nap because she "would rather talk, than sleep." She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Patty (Jeff) Scruggs, Mike (Debbie) Griggs, Kathy (Jeff) Corn, and Kenny (Connie) Griggs; her grandchildren Josh (Stacey) Scruggs, Kristen (Ryan) Mann, Matt (Libby) Scruggs, Austin Griggs, Lexie (Anthony) Giacin, Kelsey Griggs; (8) great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Ruth. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents (Dale and Vada Hardy), her husband (Bill Griggs), sisters Betty Jean Chambers, Marjorie Butcher, and Joan Long, and brothers Guy Hardy, Roger Hardy, Donald Hardy, and Leon Hardy.
