Ruth Evelyn Sims
82, Brownsburg, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020. Born November 13, 1938, in Lebanon, Indiana, she was the daughter of Loren and Alma (Dye) Souders. She was a graduate of Whitestown High School and Ball State University. She had been active as a 4-H leader, Brownsburg High School Band Boosters and the Hendricks County Democratic Party, where she had been a long-time election poll worker. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, Society of Indiana Pioneers and Calvary United Methodist Church. She taught one year before raising a family. She then tutored reading and worked for the Sigma Kappa national organization.
She was married to Howard Sims on September 6, 1959. Survivors include her husband of 61 years; daughters Sharon (Paul) Mang, Greensburg, and Sandra (Ron) Schonegg, Plainfield; sons David (Melanie) Sims, Brownsburg, and Paul (Beatriz Alvarez) Sims, Millbrae, CA; grandchildren Sean (Amanda) Mang, Aaron Mang, Kendra (Connor) Scanlon, Samantha and Jessica Schonegg, Andrew (Olivia), Ryan, Rebecca, Ariane Sims, Andrea and Angelica de Leon; three great grandchildren (and a fourth due in January); sister-in-law, Yona Souders; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Eugene and Richard Souders; sister-in-law Monzelle Souders.
Visitation for family and friends, observing CDC and state guidelines for social distancing and facial coverings will be held on Wednesday December 16, 2020 from noon to 2pm at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Brownsburg. A private service will follow with burial at the Brownsburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, the Indiana 4-H Foundation, or Breast Cancer Research.
