Sandra (Sweigart) Benge, born Sandra Lynn Sweigart on January 23, 1944, passed away on April 30, 2016. Sandy married Robert (Bob) Chris in August 1964 and was tragically widowed early in life with two teenage children. Learning new skills, she worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a medical billing specialist until her retirement on 2007. She also worked for many years for the North West Hendricks School District. Sandy married Fred Benge in December 1995 and they resided in Pittsboro for the remainder of her life. Sandy enjoyed quilting and collecting antique cups and saucers. Always ready for an adventure, she saw the positive side of life; always happy with an infectious smile. She was a longtime member of Bethesda Baptist Church. Sandy is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Chris. She is survived by her husband, Fred Benge of Pittsboro; her son, Todd Chris of Strasburg, CO; a daughter, Lora Keck of Pittsboro; and a sister, Janet Markey of Longmont, CO. Sandy had six grandchildren. She also had two stepsons, Tim Benge of North Carolina and Terry Benge of Illinois and five step-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thurs. May 5 at Bethesda Baptist Church, with funeral services there at 10am Friday May 6. Burial will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens.
