Obituary

Sara Jacqueline (Koch) Wuellner, 46, of Brownsburg, Indiana, passed away on March 26, 2026, in Indianapolis. Born on October 26, 1979, in Peru, Illinois, Sara lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, faith, and an unwavering dedication to others.

Sara's academic journey was marked by a passion for teaching. She graduated cum laude from Butler University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and later earned her Master of Education degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2007.

Sara spent 14 years teaching 6th grade at Zionsville Community Schools, where she created a classroom environment in which students felt seen, supported, and empowered. When Zionsville West Middle School opened, Sara helped shape the school as a founding staff member, introducing ideas like "Good Deed Friday" and planting perennial bulbs to brighten the new building's entrance for years to come.

In the last decade of her life, Sara focused on her family while continuing to support public education. Sara always said her favorite job ever was that of a mother to her children, Miles Everett Wuellner and Fay Jean Wuellner. She poured herself into them every day, both at home and through her extensive volunteer service within the Brownsburg Community School Corporation. As part of Sara's extensive volunteer service within the schools, Sara served as President of the Parent Support Group at Brown Elementary School and later at Brownsburg West Middle School. Following her passing, West Middle School installed a permanent mural honoring the lasting impact Sara had on students, staff, and families alike.

Sara shared a beautiful life through 21 years of marriage with her husband Mark James Wuellner and their two children, Miles and Fay. Their love is symbolized by the Carillon bench on Butler's campus which they donated to mark where their love story began. Sara was endlessly proud of her children and deeply present in their lives - whether riding bikes with them to school on warm days, cheering at sporting events, celebrating Miles' acceptance into the National Junior Honors Society, or advocating for Fay, a proud member of the Down syndrome community. Miles' birth in 2013 and Fay's adoption from China in 2014 were her most cherished moments in life.

In addition to her immediate family, Sara is survived by her parents, Harry and Beth Koch; her sister Emily (Koch) Elmore and her spouse Ryan and their  sons Lucas, Connor, and Graham; her brother H Parker Koch and his spouse Danielle and their son Bodey; and her brother Hubble Koch and his spouse Rachel and their daughter Quinn and son Levi. She loved her family and extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins fiercely, and her nieces and nephews were a constant source of joy and pride.
A woman of faith, Sara drew strength and joy from her faith family at Connection Pointe Christian Church. Her faith infused everything she did, from time spent with friends, knitting, baking, volunteering, and, above all, being fully present for her family.
