Shirley J. Gates

85, Brownsburg, passed away on June 17, 2023.  She completed her nursing training at Methodist Hospital and had been a registered nurse for St. Vincent Hospital and Witham Hospital.  Shirley was a member of Corinth Church, Indy Decorative Artists Guild, Hendricks County Homemakers Club, and the Indiana Gourd Society.  She was also a member and former officer of the Hoosier Canoe and Kayak Club.  She was a Hendricks County 4-H Club leader and 4-H judge for many counties and the state.  Shirley received her certification from Purdue Extension as a master naturalist and master gardener.  She volunteered at Eagle Creek Park where she led others on nature hikes.  Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Dorothy Galyen.  Survivors include her children Mark Gates, Lori Gates, John Gates; sister Lettie Patton; grandchildren Brad Abplanalp, Isaac Gates, Eresina Gates.  Visitation will be from 2 pm to 4 pm Mon. July 17 at Corinth Church, 6590 E. CR 1000N, Brownsburg, IN 46112, with Celebration of Life from 4 pm to 5 pm.
