Obituary

Thomas J. Cummings He was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 7, 1921 died at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville Indiana on March 7 2011 after a lengthy illness. Preceding him in death were his parents Mertle Heaney Cummings and James P Cummings, his daughter Sidney, and his brothers James, Vincent and Frank. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Maxine Mills Cummings. Also surviving are his children Marta (Roger) Hartman of Columbia Mo, Terri (Pat) Masters, Tyna (Mark) Stover of Richmond IN, Tom (Kristi) Cummings of Brownsburg IN and Michael (Michelle Carr) Cummings of Avon IN. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Born in Chicago IL, he was raised by his paternal grandmother Nancy Herity in Tennessee after the death of his mother. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the China Burma India Theater, 10th Army Air Corp, 10th Weather Squadron. After the war he served in the US Navy at Brunswick GA. Through his life he worked in a variety of jobs. He was most proud of the work he did in the late 50's and early 60's for the national space program at Air Research in Phoenix, AZ. He retired as a Millwright with the Richmond Millwright and Carpenters Union, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 912.
