Obituary

Vonda June Bullock Linville passed from this life to the next on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on February 2, 1936, in Bicknell, Indiana to Haldon "Brandy" and Opal (Messel) Bullock. She was their only child, but enjoyed a large family on both the Bullock and especially the Messel sides.

She grew up in Michigan and Indiana, and met her soulmate, William "Bill" Linville, during the summer of 1952 when they were both with friends at Indiana Beach. In 1954, she graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and married Bill. They settled in Speedway, and together they had five sons. Vonda proved herself a saint as she raised these boys in a household of "all men." The hours Vonda spent hauling boys to school, practices, games, tourneys, and other activities were only surpassed by the hours she cooked, cleaned, laundered, and planned the family's lives. There could be no better wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother than she was. She devoted herself to her family and always put others before herself to ensure we were all well-taken-care-of and loved. When Vonda wasn't managing her family and home, she worked for many years at First Bank and Trust in Speedway, selling Bee-Line, and doing other jobs to make extra money to feed all those ravenous mouths.

Special memories of "Mom L." include the many camping trips we took as a family, all jammed into a station wagon and a tent (later a trailer – can you imagine planning and packing for seven?!); vacations all around the U.S. by car; hand-drawn cartoons and pictures of the ABA Pacers legends; her patience when the house and backyard basketball court were filled with kids; delicious home-made meals and holiday traditions; the joy she expressed when she and Dad moved into a bigger 'dream house' on Ridgeview; and her annual ritual of reading the Christmas story from the Bible on Christmas Eve and presenting a birthday cake and singing to Jesus every year.

Vonda is remembered as a sweet, lovely, caring, wonderful Christian woman who cherished her beloved family with all of her heart. She loved Jesus and enjoyed art, drawing, crafting, golf and all sports, camping, card clubs, traveling, movies and shows, outdoor activities, retiring in Florida, and most of all, time spent with family and many, many friends. Her life and social calendar were never anything but packed and busy. Vonda adored life and lived it to the fullest.

Earlier this year, Vonda and Bill celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, a milestone very few achieve, and they did so amidst their legacy – sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.

Vonda was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers- and sisters-in-law. She will be greatly missed by her husband Bill; her sons and daughters-in-law Bill (Kathy), Mike (Molly), Todd (Sandy), Brad (Stephanie), and Doug (Michelle); 13 grandchildren Jordan (Erin), Jacob, Alex (Jira), Gina, Taryn, Caylie (Chris), Kyle (Megan), Hannah (Nick), Rachel, Derek, Zack, Nathan, and Sophie; and 11 great-grandchildren Cassidy, Natalie, Carley, Cami, Elliott, Clayton, Conor, Wesley, Kannon, Blakely, and Aaron. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Joann Niemann and Susie (Paul) May and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be from 11am to 2pm Friday December 20 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 2pm.  Burial will follow at Brownsburg Cemetery.
