Walter H. "Walt" Brauer (Lt. Col. USAF retired)
84, Brownsburg, passed away July 17, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with several health issues and complications. He was born in Lawrenceburg, IN on Dec. 22, 1932 to the late Joseph and Bertha (Voltz) Brauer. Walt graduated from Purdue University in Jan. 1955 and then was commissioned a 2nd Lt into the United States Air Force. There he attended pilot's training and served as a pilot on active duty for five years and an additional 15 years in the USAF reserve. He retired as a Lt. Colonel and a Command Pilot. He was also employed at Allison Division of GMC and later at the Chevrolet Stamping Plant for 33 years. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia "Ginny" Speer; sons Karl (Carol) Brauer, Cape Coral, FL, Kurt Brauer, Niles, MI, Kent (Mikie) Brauer, Fort Worth, TX, Eric Brauer, Alexandria, VA; daughter Kim (Rick) Goss, Fishers, IN; brother Frank (Therese), Cincinnati, OH; sister Margaret Burris, Dublin, OH; grandchildren Douglas (Heather) Brauer, Jill (Braxton) Rhone, Elizabeth Brauer, Amanda Brauer, Alyssa (John) Frame, Andrew Goss and Evan Goss and five great grandchildren. Walt was preceded in death by his brother Joseph, sister-in-law Sally and brother-in-law George Burris. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Friday July 21 at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Brownsburg, with visitation from 9:30am. Private interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Malachy Catholic Church Building Fund or the Knights of Columbus.
