Obituary

William Woodrow "Woody" Barton, 90, of Spencer, passed away on June 25, 2021. He was born November 23, 1930 in Crawfordsville to the late Edward Otis and Lulu May (Hauser) Barton. A man of faith who never met a stranger, he worked hard for his education and graduated from Linden High School then earned a BSME from Purdue University. He married Margaret Ann Davis on November 8, 1953, raising four children and sharing much joy in their 63 years together. His engineering career spanned 40 years at Allison Division of General Motors where he enjoyed traveling and working with many wonderful people. He also served in the US Army.
Woody was an active member of Plainfield and Spencer Christian Churches, Linden Alumni, Purdue Alumni, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, OES, Indiana Forestry and Woodland Owners, and the Owen County Historical Society. He and Ann lovingly cared for their Spencer tree farm, sharing tours and teaching forest stewardship.
Surviving are sons, William David (Sandra) Barton and Donald (Connie) Barton; daughter, Rebecca (Kevin) Bayless; eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ann, sister Freda, and son Daniel.
Funeral services will be held at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg at 1pm Wed. June 30, with visitation from 11am to 1pm. Graveside services will follow in Linden Cemetery, Linden, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spencer First Christian Church, 157 S. Montgomery St., Spencer, IN 47460.
