Obituary

Bill Guarnery passed away on August 18th, 2024 with his children by his side.

Bill was born on December 22nd, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois.  He grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Broad Ripple High School. Bill married the love of his life, Wanda on January 4th, 1952.  He served his country during the Korean War while stationed in Europe. After returning home, he and Wanda began their family as he worked full time at Detroit Diesel Allison/Allison Transmission as well as a member of the USMC Reserve Unit.

Bill was a notable community volunteer supporting youth sports with NYAA basketball and softball administration; coaching and umpiring Eagledale Little League, and officiating many high school basketball games as a State-licensed referee.  Bill also supported community events as a Shriner and as a Mason at the Millersville chapter.

Bill and Wanda moved to Brownsburg in 1993 where he served on the Town Council (including a term as president), and was a longtime member of the Hendricks County Waste Management Committee. Bill was a faithful servant of 7th and 8th United Christian Church until its closing and is a current member of Westview Christian Church.

Bill was an avid Pacer, Colts, Fever, and New York Yankees fan. Bill was a golfer, enjoyed cruises with Wanda, and a connoisseur of ice cream.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife Wanda; son Kenneth; brother Mike Joell and sister Margo Moore Knedlhans. Bill is survived by daughter Kathy; son Michael; daughter Karen Guarnery Cory (Larry); sister D.J. Elford (Russ); 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers that supported Bill over the past few months, especially Community Rehabilitation Hospital West, Paradigm Health Hospice, and ComForCare Home Care.

Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm Fri. Aug. 30 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 12 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider donating to a charity of your choice, or spending an evening with family and friends with a tasty ice cream.
