William Ernie Phillips

82, Indianapolis, passed away October 15, 2021.  He was an automotive technician for 43 years, retiring from Bill Estes Chevrolet in 2002.  He was an active member and associate pastor of Charity Baptist Church and, along with his wife, performed a nursing home ministry.  In his early years, he began riding motorcycles and then eventually started building his own racecars.  Fishing, camping and racing were some of his favorite things to do.  Ernie was preceded in death by his daughter Denise Geyer, son Benton Phillips, and parents William and Gertrude Phillips. Survivors include his wife Jewell Phillips; daughters Julie Hepler and Stephanie Phillips; sisters Betty (Chuck) Iuan and Shirley Vouchell; grandchildren Justin (Gabrielle) Geyer, Mayghan Geyer, Samantha Maitlen, Alex Maitlen, Maria Phillips and Lauren Hepler.  Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 pm Wednesday Oct. 20 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 2 pm.  Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
