William Harvey
Steinke
November 9, 1951 – June 28, 2025
Rev. William Harvey Steinke
73, Brownsburg, IN, was called to his eternal home with our Lord, surrounded by close family and friends at home on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Reverend William Harvey Steinke is the eldest of three children born to William Wilburn Steinke and Julia June Rose Steinke (nee Simerl). He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Christine Steinke (nee Keekley.) Two amazing and wonderful daughters, Emilie Ann Marx (Brian), their two children Charlotte Esther and Liam Richard; and Sarah Christine Steinke (Bryan Moll) & Bryan's children, Alex, Abby, Foster & Naomi. And, by his sisters Dianne Myers (Michael) and Sharon Kaempfer (Kurtis), beloved nieces and nephews, and many wonderfully cherished cousins. Bill had a lifelong love of learning as evidenced by his pastoral education through Concordia, Christ Seminary Seminex, and time at Christian Theological Seminary. His vicarage was at Saint James Lutheran Church in Long Island, New York under his supervisor, Reverend Ken Hansen. His years of ministry were spent at Griffith Lutheran Church, Griffith, Indiana; Messiah Lutheran Church, Brownsburg, Indiana; and St. Paul's Lutheran Church Middlebury, Indiana until he retired in 2008. His greatest passion was working with the congregation's youth, shaping and encouraging their lives in faith. Bill touched so many lives as a pastor, counselor, friend, and story-teller, never meeting a stranger. He embodied our Heavenly Father's love as an accepting, loving, and affectionate husband, father, and Boppa.
His family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and love to the members and staff of every congregation he served. Each congregation holds a special place in their hearts and is considered part of their family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society or Down Syndrome of Indiana. Memorial visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8th from 10 am to 1 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 600 N Ford Rd., Zionsville, IN 46077, with funeral services to follow at 1pm.
